Tension in Amira kadal
Srinagar, Mar 26 (UNI) Tension gripped Amira Kadal, the nerve centre of the summer capital, when police personnel allegedly beat up a driver today.
People took to the streets in protest against the incident.
However, police immediately swung into action and brought the situation under control after resorting to cane charge.
The demonstrators raising anti police slogans alleged that police personnel deployed in the city were harassing people in the name of security.
They alleged that a police party near Gurdwara chowk at Amira Kadal beat up a driver Shabir Ahmad without any reason. The injured driver was later admitted to SMHS hospital.
The demonstrators demanded an immediate stop end to harassment of people by the police and security forces deployed in the city.
Later, senior police officers visited the spot and assured that action would be taken against police personnel if found to have exceeded their limits.
