Six injured in communal violence in Vadodara
Vadodara, Mar 26 (UNI) At least six people including a woman, were injured in a clash involving two different communities in the city's sensitive Fatehpura area late last night, police today said.
Police said tension prevailed in the area after two youths of neighbouring Alifnagar and Ranavas had a quarrel over a minor accident earlier in the evening.
With the intervention by the leaders of both sides, the matter subsided. However, it took a violent turn late at night when a mob of 100 people took to the streets, pelting stones and glass bottles at each other, in which six people, including a woman, were injured. Four of the victims were admitted to the civil hospital. An autorickshaw was also damaged in the attack, police said.
Police said they had resorted to a mild lathicharge to quell the mob and bring the situation under control. Following the incident, patrolling in all the sensitive areas of the city had been intensified.
A case of rioting was registered, police said adding that no arrest has been made yet in this connection.
