Police nab rapist-killer
Nashik, Mar 25 (UNI) Police not only saved a girl child from being allegedly raped and killed but also solved a similar crime committed a month ago with the arrest of a youth in the wee hours today.
Police commissioner Himanshu Roy said when a police patrol, alerted by people's commotion at around 0300 hrs, caught a youth fleeing with a four-year-old girl, he turned out to be the one who had allegedly kidnapped, raped and murdered a 10-year-old girl in the city on February 22-23.
Vijay Nananavere, 24, has confessed to his crime, the police commissioner told reporters, adding his DNA sample is being sent for analysis to match with the semen preserved from the earlier rape victim. The accused said he committed the crime under the influence of liquor.
The four-year-old child was sleeping with her grandmother outside their home in CIDCO's Uttam Nagar area when the accused lifted her and fled. When the grandmother raised an alarm and people started giving a chase, a police patrol in the area caught him and rescued the girl.
Police have booked nananavere on charges of kidnapping, rape and murder.
