Gulbarga, Mar 26 (UNI) All India Muslim Personal Law Board Vice President Moulana Muhammad Sirajul Hassan today said no religion in the world taught hatred, but only commanded human beings to respect each other's religion.

Speaking at a symposium on 'Contribution of Prophet Mohammad to Mankind,' organised by Jamaat-e-Islami Hind here, he said People were trapped in worldly affairs without realising the purpose of their creation, ''Roti, kapada and makaan is just the need, it is not the ambition,'' he asserted.

Gulbarga University Kannada Department Professor D B Nayak said the misconception that Islam taught violence and propagated terrorism should be eliminated from the minds of the people.

He said ''Islam is the religion whose crux lies in universal brotherhood and social equality.'' Prof Nayak lamented that people had made less efforts to understand the ideologies and philosophies of the Prophet and laid emphasis on organising more such programmes to remove wrong notions persisting in people's mind about the religion.

He said the religion firmly believed in charity and strictly followed ''zakah,'' which made charity a compulsion.
