MDMK receives applications from candidates for assembly poll
Chennai, Mar 26 (UNI) Having deserted the DMK-led Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA) and joined the ruling AIADMK-led Democratic People's Front (DPF), Marumalarchi DMK, which was allotted 35 seats,today began receiving applications from aspiring candidates for May eight assembly elections in Tamil Nadu.
MDMK has been contesting from Chennai Harbour, Perambur (Reserved), Egmore (Reserved), Anna Nagar, Tambaram, Poonamalee, Tirupathur, Vellore, Ginji, Nellikuppam, Kurinjipadi, Dharmapuri, Dharamangalam, Kabilarmalai, Thondamuthur, Vellakovil, Tirupur, Sathyamangalam, Cumbum, Thirumangalam, Madurai East, Dindigul, Aravakkurichi, Thottiam, Tiruchirapalli-I, Mayiladuthurai, Pattukkottai, Sivagangai, Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar, Sivakasi, Vasudevanallur (Reserved), Tenkasi, Sathankulam and Nagercoil Constituencies.
G Nanmaran, spokesman of the MDMK told UNI here today that a three member Committee, comprising party's Organising Secretary Seema Basheer, Party's Headquarters Secretary Prof Ramamoorthy and Election Committee Deputy Secretary T C Rajendran had received the applications from more than 300 aspiring candidates till this evening.
Some of the partymen, while submitting the application on behalf of MDMK General Secretary Vaigo, urged him to contest, either from Sivakasi or from Anna Nagar in the city.
He said the Committee will receive applications till tomorrow afternoon, and it will be submitted to Mr Vaigo, who in turn will place the applications before the party's administrative council for selecting the candidates.
Mr Nanmaran said Mr Vaigo and six members of the party's Parliamentary Board, would conduct an interview with the aspirants from tomorrow afternoon at the Party headquarters, Thayagam.
The party's election manifesto and the list of candidates, would be announced at the candidates introductory public meeting to be held in the city on March 29, he added.
