Lok Ayuktas to have more power: Mehrotra
Kanpur, March 26 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Lok Ayukta N K Mehrotra today said that the Centre was planning to bring a legislation to provide uniform powers to all 17 Lok Ayukta offices in the country.
Interacting with mediapersons here Mr Mehrotra said that the proposed legislation by provding uniform powers to all 17 Lok Ayuktas will result in quick disposal of cases and ensure that the crucial institution became result oriented.
He said at present only Karnataka Lok Ayukta was empowered to effect steps on the complaints while other 16 such institutions in the country were virtually having no power in this regard.
Following the passage of the bill that seeks ammending the Lok Ayukta Act suitably, all the Lok Ayuktas in the country will have uniform powers for punishing guilty persons, he said.
Mr Mehrotra who joined his new office only ten days ago said his office would soon go online and subsequently complaints could be sent through e-mails. The complainants will also be provided timely feedback on the status of their grievances.
He further informed that the Lok Ayukta office in UP has so far received 1,150 complaints and they will be disposed off only after proper investigations.
