Karunanidhi criticises AIADMK for violating poll norms

Chennai, Mar 26 (UNI) DMK President M Karunanidhi today alleged that the AIADMK government in Tamil Nadu had thrown norms and regulations to the winds by indulging in malpractices for the May 8 assembly elections in the state, as in the past.

In a statement here, Mr Karunanidhi charged the AIADMK government with attempting to use Women Self Help Groups to campaign against the DMK-led DPA in Namakkal, Rasipuram, Andipatti, Periyakulam, Dharmapuri and Morappur constituencies.

He also alleged that despite the issuance of stern action, neither the Election Commission of India, nor the State Chief Electoral Officer, were doing anything to prevent the violation of the Model Code of Conduct and EC's norms and regulations by the AIADMK.

Mr Karunanidhi also alleged that this confirmed his party's suspicion about the impartial functioning of the State Chief Electoral Officer and other officials.

He called upon the party cadres to keep a vigil and guard against such violations.

Referring to the party's candidates list for the coming assembly polls, Mr Karunanidhi said the list was being drawn up with the intention to provide chances to new faces and women.
