Jung named outstanding athlete C'wealth games

Melbourne, Mar 26 (UNI) Samaresh Jung added another feather to his golden cap when the Indian shooter was named the most outstanding athlete of the Commonwealth Games here today.

Jung, who missed out on a record equalling sixth gold medal yesterday, was presented the award by Commomwealth Games Federation(CGF) President Michael Fennell.

Samaresh won five gold, two silver and one bronze in the Games but lost out on joining swimmers Ian Thorpe and Susie O' Neil as the highest gold medal winner after his weapon malfunctioned in the 25m standard pistol final.

The award named after the former Honorary Secretary of the CGF for 17 years, David Dixon, was introduced in the last edition of the Commonwealth Games in Manchester.

Natalie Du Toit, a South African swimmer with disability, won the first award.
