Gulmarg experiences fresh snowfall, rainfall in plain
Srinagar, Mar 26 (UNI) The world famous ski resort of Gulmarg and other upper reaches in the Kashmir valley experienced fresh snowfall early this morning while most of the plain areas received rains.
The 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh national highway remained closed due to snowfall while the 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway was open to vehicular traffic and all incoming and outgoing flights operated normally.
The ski slopes of Gulmarg besides Khilangmarg, Upperwat and seven springs experienced fresh snowfall early this morning, much to the delight of tourists from different parts of the country where the temperature has already gone up.
About six inches of fresh snowfall was recorded at Gulmarg where ski slopes are already under three feet of snow.
The holy Amarnath cave and other halting points enroute to the shrine from Pahalgam also experienced fresh snowfall.
The Zojila pass, on the 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh national highway, also had fresh snowfall during the night. The highway has been closed for six winter months since November 17 last year. However, the Drass-Kargil-Leh highway was thrown open for traffic.
A report from Baramulla said it was raining in the entire north Kashmir disrupting normal life.
