Cpi(M) activist killed in Bengal, Congress supporters arrested
Malda, Mar 26 (UNI) A CPI (M) activist was killed and five others were injured when miscreants threw bombs at the party office at Chalksari village under Baishnabnagar police station in this district of West Bengal last night, police here said today.
The injured were admitted to a local hospital, according to District Superintendent of Police Dilip Mondol.
He said six Congress activists including block leader Shamin Skaikh were arrested in the murder case.
Alam Saikh (30), a rickshaw puller by profession, was supporter of the CPI(M), said district Left Front Convenor Jiban Maitra.
He alleged since the party office was set up at Chalksari block recently, the Congress supporters had been targetting it. He said the injured were involved in a party programme when the Congress men attacked them with bombs and other lethal weapons in which Alam died on the spot.
The body was sent for post mortem.
Additional policemen were deployed in the area to restore peace there.
