Copters are right choice for canvassing in Asom
Jorhat, Mar 26 (UNI) Choppers have crowded the skies of Asom and even after yesterday's force landing of a helicopter carrying Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) president Brindabon Goswami, they remain the most favourite mode of communication for top leaders.
The AGP has forked out Rs 46 lakh for the single helicopter that the party has been using for campaign. The Congress and the BJP have brought in two with almost identical amount.
''Because of lack of time and geographical distance as well as bad roads, we have been forced to hire helicopter, '' Mr Goswami said, adding that despite yesterday's scare when his helicopter had to force land at Lakhimpur, it remains an absolute must for all the political leaders.
The Congress has kept the chopper for senior leaders only.
As far as the state Congress is concerned only, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and party president Bhubaneshwar Kalita are allowed to fly, while VVIPs from the Centre will be using the choppers to fan out to the voters.
Besides Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, host of the party big wigs are crowding Asom in the next fortnight.
The BJP, a master of travel plan and systematic campaign, has already started using their choppers unleashing one after another national leaders. Already Mr Venkiah Naidu and Ms Sushma Swaraj had already visited several constituencies but the power of chopper would be fully utilised during the coming days when the canvassing is supposed to hit the peak.
