Congress expels 13 rebel candidates in Asom

Guwahati, Mar 26 (UNI) The Congress today expelled its thirteen party members for filing nominations as independent candidates for the first phase of Asom polls.

Announcing this at a joint press conference, Congress Rajya Sabha member Dwijen Sharma and APCC media cell chairman I P Hazarika said the rebel candidates have been explled for six years for anti-party activities.

They said the party would soon approach Press Council of India (PCI) on alleged violation of guidelines laid down by the Council for reporting any issue by a section of the local media.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and party state in-charge Digvijay Singh have already issued notices to the local dailies which alleged the duos involvement in a cement scam.

The party also criticised BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu's charge that 30 per cent of Muslims in the state were Bangladeshis.
