CEC, election commissioners to visit Pondy on Mar 27

Pondicherry, Mar 26 (UNI) Chief Election Commissioner B B Tandon and election commissioners Navin B Chawla and Gopalasamy will arrive here tomorrow to review the poll preparedness, Pondicherry district election officer and district collector Theva Neethi Das said today.

Talking to newspersons here, he said the full-fledged election commission will hold a meeting with the representatives of various political parties, election officials and police officials here tomorrow before leaving for Chennai.

Stating that some political parties were using the self-help groups to entice the voters which was a violation of model code of conduct, he warned of action in such cases.

A toll-free telephone number had been installed here to lodge complaints about the violation of the model code, he said adding that 55 complaints were received of which 32 were disposed of after investigation.

He said auxilary polling booths would be set up in polling centres were there was a rush and this would be used exclusively for women voters. Ramps would also be set up in the booths for the benefit of physically challenged persons.
