Block Pramukh accused in Mehar murder case held

Jaunpur, Mar 26 (UNI) A team of Lucknow police today arrested from the Chandawak area of this East Uttar Pradesh district, a block pramukh, accused in the murder of Mehar Bhargava, the wife of Congress leader Luv Bhargava.

Superintendent of Police Abhay Kumar Prasad told UNI here that Ajay Prakash Singh alias K D Singh was arrested by a team of Lucknow Police from the Jarasi area of Chandawak police circle here.

K D Singh was the block pramukh of Dobhi and a confidant of a mafia don-turned-MLA from the district.

Ms Bhargava, a former lawyer and wife of Lucknow-based Congress leader, was shot at and injured by one Sachin Pahadi on February 28 in the busy Hazratganj locality of the UP capital, after she raised a voice against lewd gestures passed at her daughter-in-law by Pahadi and his friends.

Pahadi and his friends had just come down from the flat of K D Singh after consuming liquor.

Mehar succumbed to her wounds at a hospital in the national capital yesterday and her mortal remains would be cremated in Lucknow later today.
