Prohibitory orders in Byndur Police station limits
Udupi, Mar 25 (UNI) Prohibitory orders were clamped under section 144 of the CrPC Act as a precautionary measure following tear gas and lathi charge by the police to disperse a mob of 500 people which pelted stones on police personnel in Kundapur in this district of Karnataka, police said.
The trouble started when a police team tried to stop a speeding autorickshaw last night at Shiroor. It escaped without stopping and the driver returned with 500 people from his community armed with sticks and tube lights to the inspection site. They shouted slogans and pelted stones at the police.
Four police personnel were injured in the incident.
Additional police force were rushed and the situation was brought under control, police said.
Three people were arrested in connection with the violence.
