Guwahati, Mar 25 (UNI) Asom Chief Minister and Congress leader Tarun Gogoi today released a 'performance record' of his government in the run up to the Assembly polls.

Mr Gogoi said the previous governments in the state, particularly the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), could not publish a performance record as the regional party had failed to live up to the people's expectations.

'' We have published the performance record giving details of our achievements during the last five years. We have been able to keep most of the promises made by our party during the previous Assembly polls in 2001,'' Mr Gogoi said.

He alleged that the rival AGP was in total confusion as their leader Brindabon Goswami, who was contesting from two constituencies, sounded hardly confident about winning the elections.

'' The AGP chief has failed to keep the party united before polls, how will he be able to run the state ?'' Mr Gogoi asked.

AGP general secretary Dilip Kumar Saikia said, '' Mr Gogoi who has ushered in an era of corruption and lawlessness during the last five years, has now started hitting the AGP chief out of frustration. The people of Asom will give the Congress a proper answer during the forthcoming polls.'' Mr Gogoi also accused the BJP of trying to whip up a communal passion in the state over the infiltration issue, the main poll plank of the saffron party. '' We are going to move the Election Commission over BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu's statement that 30 per cent population in the state are Bangladeshi immigrants. This is derogatory for genuine Indian minority citizens living in the state,'' he added.

Meanwhile, the BJP alleged that the Congress purposely turned a blind eye to the alarming problem of illegal infiltration from Bangladesh so that it could protect its vote bank among immigrants.
