Shillong, Mar 24 (UNI) Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil today dismissed the allegation that the UPA government had adopted a ''soft'' stand towards the neighbouring countries that are reported to have sheltered militants from this side.

'' Neither are we soft nor harsh'', Mr Patil said while talking to reporters. He,however, did not name any country when his attention was brought to the allegation on why the Centre had been soft towards Bangladesh which was alleged to have allowed anti-social elements from India to make camps there.

'' We have been correct on what we are doing'', the home Minister said who toured the capital on the occasion of 171st Raising Day of the Assam Rifles, the country's oldest para military force.

He said the Centre was trying to create an atmosphere of understanding and hoped that all such problems could be solved amicably.
