UNLF says it will support inquiry into rape cases

Imphal, Mar 24 (UNI) The banned United National Liberation Front (UNLF) has announced that it will support any inquiry into the alleged rape of 21 women at Churachandpur district earlier by suspected militants.

The Front further said it will award capital punishment to any of its cadres, if they were found guilty and assured to rehabilitate the victims.

Meanwhile, the fact finding team formed by three organisations will also present a report. The Manipur government has already instituted a judicial inquiry after the issue was raised in the Assembly by Opposition members.

The UNLF welcomed the inquiry and urged all the organisations to support the fact finding team.

Manipur Governor Dr S S Sidhu had visited the interior areas of Churachandpur, where the alleged rape took place. Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh will visit the villages on March 28.
