Rs 2.6 cr heroin seized, 1 held
Chennai, Mar 24: Officers of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence have arrested a city resident and seized from him 2.6 kg of heroin valued at about Rs 2.6 crore in the international market.
An official release here said on specific information, the officers searched a residential premises in the city on Wednesday and seized the contraband.
Out of 2.6 kg of heroin, 1.3 kgs was recovered in the form of 393 capsules, each containing about five gm, to facilitate swallowing them for smuggling.
The remaining 1.3 kg of heroin was recovered from three polythene covers. Material used for packing were also seized from the premises, it added.
Besides the occupant, others who helped him in drug trafficking were also arrested. Efforts were on to apprehend the others, the release added.
