Amritsar, Mar 24: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today (Mar 24, 2006) assured that he will take up the issue of the death sentence awarded to Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh, with the Pakistan Government.

The Pime Minister gave this assurance to Mrs Dalbir Kaur, the sister of Sarabjit who was sentenced to death by a Pakistani court in a bomb explosion case. Sarabjit's first review petition against the lower courts sentence was turned down by the Pakistan Supreme Court last month.

Mrs Dalbir Kaur along with Swapandeep and Poonam, daughters of the condemned prisoner met Dr Singh at the Cicuit House here. The weeping daughters of Sarabjit pleaded before him to save their father from the gallows.

Mrs Dalbir Kaur said ''I am a daughter of Punjab, please save my brother''.

Moved by the gesture of the sister and daughters of Sarabjit, said ''I personally spoke to President Pervez Musharraf twice in the past about Sarabjit's case and now again I will talk to him''.

According to Mrs Dalbir Kaur the Pime Minister has also agreed to write an official letter to the Pakistan government on Sarabjit's case.
