Farmers detain train
Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh, Mar 24 (UNI) About 100 farmers of this district detained the Rajendra Nagar-Ernakulam Express at the railway station here yesterday for ten minutes protesting demanding the Centre to come to rescue of the poultry sector which had been badly hit by Bird Flu threat.
Addressing the gathering, Balaji Hatcheries Managing Director V Sundera Naidu said consumption of eggs and chicken had come down drastically due to 'negative' propaganda against the poultry industry.
The Centre should take effective steps urgently to bring normalcy to the industry failing which farmers could commit suicide, he cautioned.
