V Shantaram's family in legal dispute

Mumbai, Mar 23 (UNI) The family of legendary filmmaker V Shantaram has got embroiled in a legal dispute over the control of the famed Rajkamal Kala Mandir Studios complex and the 35-odd films produced by the film company, V Shantaram Productions, and the matter likely to come up for hearing in a local court here next month.

Last week, Mr Kiran Chandra Shantaram, son of the film legend, challenged the proposed entry of his own second son, Chaitanya, onto the Boards of the two private firms, as a Director.

On behalf of Mr Kiran, his other son, Rahul, armed with a power of attorney, filed the case against Chaitanya. Another relative of Chaitanya had also been appointed on the Board.

Chaitanya's lawyer C S Savitri, while confirming this, said Kiran has challenged the company resolution appointing Chaitanya as a director. The case is likely to come up for hearing next month.

Sources said the late V Shantaram's first and third wives, Vimla and Sandhya, had no issues. Mr Kiran is the son from his second wife, Jaishri.

The great filmmaker had produced and directed such immortal gems in black-and-white as ''Dr Kotnis Ki Amar Kahani'' and ''Do Aankhen, Barah Haath'' and ''Navrang'' in colour.
