UP assembly adjourned after delayed start
Lucknow, Mar 23 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh Assembly, which unprecedently started 15 minutes late today, was adjourned by Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey, much to the dismay of the opposition members.
The lower house began proceedings 15 miniutes late from the scheduled start at 1100 hrs, owing to the non-fulfillment of quorum, as the minimum of 41 members were not present in the Assembly.
However, the BJP members boycotted the house proceedings, claiming that the Speaker, should have come on the chair and then only the issue of non-fulfillment of quorum could be taken up by the house.
Surprisingly, Mr Pandey came to the chair at 1115 hrs and announced adjourning the house till 1300 hrs, without citing any reason.
The opposition also objected to the ''unreasonable'' adjournment of the house, which also consumed the question hour.
Interestingly, most of the ruling Samajwadi Party members were not present in the house, due to the inauguration of the Jai Prakash Narayan International Centre at the Lohia Park in the capital city, which was also attended among others by former defence minister and NDA convenor George Fernandes.
