Textile sector to provide 1.35 million jobs in AP by 2015

Hyderabad, Mar 23 (UNI) The Textile sector would create 1.35 million jobs in Andhra Pradesh by 2015, according to a release by the Confederation of Indian Industry(CII)- Andhra Pradesh unit.

The release said the dismantling of the quota system from January 2005 had changed the face of the Indian textile sector. It emphasised that '' industries in the State needed to invest Rs 144 billion till 2010 and an additional Rs 217 billion till 2015.

The Government needed to take the initiative in setting up water treatment facilities, which in turn will facilitate the investment in the State.

Flexible labour policy was the need of the hour. Special focus was made on the export-oriented industry, which faces the challenge of fluctuating demand, as well as strict quality norms followed by the clients.

The Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (TUFS) needed to be extended upto 2010.

Establishment of Textile City would give the requisite push to the sector in the State, the release added.
