BAGHDAD, Mar 23 (Reuters) At least six people were killed and 36 wounded today when a suicide car bomber rammed his vehicle into a checkpoint outside the headquarters of the Iraqi police's major crimes unit in Baghdad, police said.

Police said most of the casualties were policemen, wounded or killed when the car bomber drove at high speed into the checkpoint.

Ambulances rushed to the scene and police quickly sealed off the area.

Sunni Arab insurgents fighting to topple the US-backed government target Iraqi security forces on a daily basis, ambushing police and army patrols with carbombs and makshift explosives planted on the roadside.
