Sonia has again stood for moral values: AP CM
Hyderabad, Mar 23 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and PCC chief and Rajya Sabha member K Keshava Rao today hailed AICC President Sonia Gandhi's decision to resign her Lok Sabha seat, saying she had again proved that she stood for high political values.
Addressing a joint press meet, the two leaders said Ms Gandhi had floored the opposition, which was 'indulging in false propaganda' that the government was planning to issue an ordinance to save her.
'As Congressmen, we are proud of her. No one can match her in the spirit of sacrifice. This is the third time she proved she is capable of sacrifice. She rejected the post of Prime Minister twice -- the first time when Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated and secondly, when she led Congress to victory at the Centre in 2004. Now she has sacrificed her Lok Sabha membership.' Dr Reddy and Dr Rao said Sonia Gandhi stood on a high ''moral pedestal and every one should emulate her spirit of sacrifice''.
When asked if Ms Gandhi had resigned because the opposition had submitted a memorandum to the President, Dr Reddy said it was not a ''face-saving measure''.
''The Chairperson's post in the National Advisory Council was not an office of profit. Ms Gandhi was a sensitive person and did not care for power,'' he said.
Stressing that her resignation was not related to the Jaya Bacchan incident, the two leaders said her spirit of sacrifice would continue to guide Congressmen.
