Sharath Kamal enters quarterfinals of TT open event

Melbourne, Mar 23 (UNI) Architect of India's gold medal victory in the team event, Achanta Sharath Kamal put up another sparkling display to outclass Andrew Rushton of England 4-1 to breeze in the quarterfinals of the Men's open Table Tennis competition in the Commonwealth Games here today.

Sharath Kamal overpowered Rushton 7-11, 11-6, 12-11, 11-6, 11-5.

However, his teammate Subhajit Saha went down to Zi Yang of Singapore 1-4 (11-5, 5-11, 10-12, 8-11, 7-11).

In the women section, Mouma Das tried her best before Singaporean Yan Xu tamed her 4-3 (12-14, 12-10, 11-13, 11-4, 11-13, 11-2, 12-10) in the pre-quarterfinals.

Poulomi Ghatak also lost her match to Miao Miao of Australia 1-4 (9-11, 11-7, 5-11, 8-11, 11-13) while Mo Zhang beat a gritty Nandita Saha 4-3 (11-3, 7-11, 6-11, 7-11, 12-10, 11-3, 12-10).

In mixed doubles, Soumyadeep Roy and Mouma Das beat Baggaley and Walkar (England) 3-0.
