Chennai, Mar 23 (UNI) Satyam Computer Services Ltd today announced that it had signed a five-year deal to maintain, support and enhance the application portfolio for Nissan North America.

Addressing a press conference here, Satyam Manufacturing and Automotive Business Director and Senior Vice President Subu D Subramanian said 300 to 350 people would be deployed for the multi-year contract, for which Satyam was the sole partner.

The ramping up of Chennai operations would be completed within six months, he added.

Stating that Nissan had selected Satyam to manage all its mission critical business applications in its key North American market, he said this comprised multiple business functions of Nissan.

Of Nissan's total turnover of 80 billion USD for 2005, 40 per cent was accounted by the North American region, Mr Subramanian said adding that it was the fastest growing segment.

Satyam was already working with Nissan in Japan and expected the deal to result in substantial expansion of operations.

The automotive sector constituted a significant percentage of Satyam's manufacturing revenue of which 85 per cent came from the Chennai region, he said in response to a query.

Satyam envisaged its headcount for the Nissan deal to touch 750 people in the next three years.
