Rs 67 lakh distributed among Bhagalpur riot victims
Patna, Mar 23 (UNI) Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi today informed the Bihar Legislative Council that the state government had distributed compensation of Rs 67 lakh among Bhagalpur riot victims.
In reply to short notice question of Mr Nawal Kishore Yadav, he said the Industry department had distributed Rs 67 lakh among the 742 Bhagalpur riot victims.
Mr Modi said the state govenment intended to waive the loan taken by the riot victims on the pattern of anti-Sikh riot of 1984 and the decision in this connection would be taken within one month. He said Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had also urged the Prime Minister to announce package for the Bhagalpur riot victims on the pattern of victims of anti-Sikh riots of 1984.
Earlier, replying to short notice question of BJP member Kiran Ghai, he said the Planning Commission had increased the plan size of 2006-07 to Rs 8250 crore.
He informed that the state government owed Rs 4283 crore as debt in 2004-05. Tax collection had increased by 53 per cent during the past four years after division of Bihar, he added.
