Prez to lay foundation for eco-tourism park

Imphal, Mar 23: President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam would lay the foundation stone of a Rs 50 crore eco-tourism park next month in Manipur.

State Tourism and Sports Minister K Govindas said here today, ''The Centre had agreed to promote tourism in the state after Governor Dr S S Sidhu pursued the matter and fund for the park was sanctioned.'' ''Construction of the park, spread over 260 acres at Nongmaiching hills, would begin soon,'' the minister said.

Indian Tourism Corporation would be the implementing agency of this unique eco-tourism park, he claimed.

A botanical with indigenous medicinal plants, ecological research, education and exhibition units would also be a part of the plan, the minister said.

The park would also have separate facilities for sports and games, shopping complex, children's playrooms,'' the minister added.
