Over 400 pigs die due to unknown disease in Nagpur
Nagpur, Mar 23 (UNI) More than 400 pigs have died due to an unknown disease in Ramtek taluka of Nagpur district during the past seven days, spreading panic among the villagers, according to Ramtek Municipal Council (MC).
Sources today said the pigs were found dying in the council's area one after another. Initially, the municipal council administration did not take the matter seriously, but when large number of pigs started dying, it swing into action and the dead pigs were buried.
The council has also written to the veterinary department, with a request to ascertain the cause of the death of pigs, and if it affects the public health.
Experts from the veterinary department and the divisonal health office here have rushed to Ramtek.
Some of the dead pigs have been sent for postmortem and medical examination and the reports are expected within two days, sources said.
As a precautionary measure, the died pigs have either been buried or consigned to flames immediately to avoid any adverse effect to the general public, sources added.
