Official urges conservation of rainwater for drinking needs
Vijayawada, Mar 23 (UNI) Every drop of rain water should be conserved for drinking purposes, Rural Water Supply (RWS) Superintending Engineer P Venkateswarlu said here last night.
Delivering a lecture on 'Water Conservation' organised by the Institution of Engineers (India) on the occasion of the World Water Day, he said 72 per cent of the water, fit for consumption was lost, because of floodwater flow into the sea.
Mr Venkateswarlu said 40 per cent of the world is facing water scarcity, and the growing contamination of water is causing concern all over the world.
Diarrhoea occurring due to contamination is causing seven lakh deaths every year, he added.
