NFL tie plunges into darkness
Kolkata, Mar 23 (UNI) Salt Lake stadium here plunged into darkness nine minutes into the Mohun Bagan-Salgaocar NFL tie stopping the play for 20 minutes today.
The match started off well with both sides trading attacks.
As a Bruno Olivera grounder was parried by Mohun Bagan keeper Subroto Paul for corner, the lights went out plunging the ampitheatre like stadium into darkness.
Though electricity was restored within two minutes it took almost 20 minutes for the double row of giant vapour lights to come to their own for the play to begin.
Stadium sources said the loadshedding was due to sudden increase in the voltage that caused the central gear to trip.
Incidentally, the same thing happened in September 2004 during India's international tie against Japan and again a few months later during an NFL tie.
