Lawyers demand High court bench in Western Orissa

Sambalpur, Mar 23 (UNI) The lawyers of Sambalpur District Bar Association (SDBA) have decided to continue their boycott of court on the last Wednesday of every month demanding a bench of Orissa High Court in Western Orissa.

The advocates who boycotted court wearing black badges yesterday have changed their demand to set up the bench in Sambalpur and instead preferred the bench to be set up anywhere in Western Orissa.

SDBA President Purna Chandra Mohanty said the state government now could not take a plea that there was no consensus on the establishment of the bench in Western Orissa.

He said as per the appeal of the striking lawyers, members from the judiciary abstained from attending the courts yesterday. The lawyers, he said would continue the boycott of the courts on the last Wednesday of every month till the demand was met.

The advocates have been resorting to the agitational path since the last four months in support of their demand.
