Hindustan Lever employees to stage dharna on Mar 28
Mumbai, Mar 23 (UNI) Hindustan Lever Employees' Union (HLEU) will stage a dharna on March 28 at Azad Maidan here to protest the company's move to close its city-based factory.
HLEU general secretary Bennet D'Costa told mediapersons here that the move would affect the livelihood of more than 900 employees and it would also violate court orders in this regard.
Therefore, we have decided to protest the move,'' he said.
Mr D'Costa said in its bid to close the factory, the company had first shifted its production from here to other units and later transferred it to its subsidiary Bon Ltd.
He cited court orders holding the shifting of production as illegal under the Industrial Disputes Act and branded it as an unfair labour practice.
He also informed that the state Labour Commissioner, has rejected the closure application filed jointly by Hindustan Lever and Bon Ltd.
