HC orders release of 8 detenues

Srinagar, Mar 23: Jammu and Kashmir high court has ordered the release of eight persons arrested under Public Safety Act (PSA) from different parts of the Kashmir valley.

Quashing the PSA against the detenues, Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir directed the authorities to release them forthwith.

The order came after Mr Justice Mir heard the arguments from both the sides.

He said the police has failed to prove the charges levelled against the detenues under PSA.

The court said there was no evidence which suggest that the persons arrested were involved in any militancy related incident.

Mr Justice Mir later ordered the release of Showkat Ahmed Bhat, Javid Ahmed Bhat, Mohammad Rafi Mir, Mohammad Ashraf Mir, Mohmmad Abid Mir, Manzoor Ahmed Sofi, Shahnawaz Ahmed Ganie and Showkat Ahmed Zargar.

Police had arrested them from different parts of the valley for their alleged involvement in militancy.
