Guj not to support any religion-based census: Modi
Gandhinagar, Mar 23 (UNI) Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today criticised the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre for its decision to set up a committee to conduct religion-based census in various departments, including defence forces of the country.
He also assured the House that such a census would not be conducted by any department of the State Government, under any pretext.
Mr Modi further said this kind of census is not only to be criticised, but it also against the basic spirit of the Indian constitution.
His remarks came came during the question hour session of the House, in reference to a question raised by a member relating to collection of data on educational ratio among the various castes and religions in Gujarat.
