Govt promises job to vendor's kin

Bhopal, Mar 23 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh government today announced in the Assembly that a family member of the vendor, who self-immolated himself during an anti-encroachment drive in Gwalior city, would be provided regular employment by the municipal corporation.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the government's aim was to provide regular source of livelihood to the family and if required, additional financial assistance would also be extended to the family of Pappu Rathore, who immolated himself on January 23.

Minister of State for Home Nagendra Singh, while replying to a call attention notice, said a magisterial inquiry had already been ordered into the incidents related to removal of encroachments in Kampu area on the High Court directive. Pappu Rathore's family had already been given financial assistance of Rs 1.40 lakh, he said.

Dr Govind Singh, Mr Arif Aqeel and Mr Ramniwas Rawat (all Cong), who moved the notice, said the district officials remained a mute spectators when the vegetable vendor immolated himself while standing on the road divider. He later succumbed to burns at a Delhi hospital.
