Easy wins for BBMB, HVPN

Chandigarh, Mar 23 (UNI) Hosts Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) and Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam (HVPM) recorded easy victories on the opening day of the 32nd All India Electricity Boards Hockey Tournament played here today.

BBMB blanked Andhra Pradesh Genco 3-0, after leading by 1-0 at half time in a pool B encounter. Gurkirpal Singh (24, 56th minutes) and Ravi Kumar (45th) were the scorers for the winners.

Later in a pool C fixture, HVPN enjoyed an upper hand throughout the match as they routed Uttar Pradesh Power Sector 5-2. Naveen (12th, 47th), Balwinder (38th), Naveen (26th) and Prakash (22nd) were the scorers for the winners. Muneer (52nd, penalty corner) and Sushil (28th) reduced the margin for the losers.

Earlier, Sharat C Mahajan, Member Power, BBMB inaugurated the tournament while Jagbans Singh, president of the All-India Electricity Sports Control Board and FA and CAO, BBMB, was also present on the occasion.

Tata Power Corporation and Indraprastha Power Generation Ltd pulled out of the 10-team tournament. Both teams were clubbed with MP State Electricity Board in pool B.
