E Ahamed to represent India at Arab Summit

New Delhi, Mar 23: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has deputed Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahamed to represent India at the 18th Arab Summit, to be held in Kahrtoum on March 28-29.

The Minister will lead a high level delegation at the summit, which is going to take stock of security and political situation in the region, which is engulfed in violence.

India had been granted observers status at the arab league Summit because of its close proximity with the arab world and its consistent support to the Arab cause.

Mr E Aahmed, who was a special guest at the 60th anniversary of the League of Arab States here last night, said that India supports Arab cause. He reiterated the government's "unwavering support for the just rights of the Palestinians, including establishment of an independent viable and sovereign Palestinian state".

India has also been extending technical and economic support to the Palestinian authority for the development and well being of the people of Palestine.

The function was attended by Dean of the Arab Diplomatic Corps Abdelmahmood Mohammed, Mr Rebhi M Altari of the Arab league and ambassador of Oman, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Libya, Jordan Syria and other nations.
