Mumbai, Mar 23 (UNI) Former CBI deputy legal adviser and special public prosecutor R P Dwivedi and one Bharatbhai Shah, arrested on charges of corruption, were today remanded by judicial custody till April four by a special CBI court.

While remanding the duo to judicial custody, Additional Sessions Judge Mrudula Bhatkar directed the prosecution to conduct medical examination of both the accused.

Dwivedi is suffering from ''cancer'', while Shah is a heart patient.

Ms Bhatkar further directed that if the doctors so advise, the accused should be admitted to a government-run hospital and if not, they should be taken to Arthur Road Jail.

Dwivedi's counsel B B Tiwari moved a bail application on the ground that investigations into the case have been completed, including the search of his house.

However, the Judge adjourned the hearing on the bail plea till tomorrow.

According to the prosecution, Dwivedi, who was arrested on March 14, often contacted people under the inquiry by the CBI and collected money for 'helping them'.

It also came on record that Dwivedi had received Rs two lakh from a person for the help he rendered in enabling his release on bail.

Bonds worth Rs 18.65 lakh (UTI, IDBI, Flexi Bonds and Kisan Vikas Patras) were seized during the house search.
