Blast hits central central Baghdad, gunfire heard

Baghdad, Mar 23: Central Baghdad was hit by an explosion that sent a plume of smoke into the air today (Mar 23, 2006), and witnesses reported hearing gunfire immediately after the blast.

It was not immediately clear what had caused the explosion.
