Blast hits central Baghdad, gunfire heard

BAGHDAD, Mar 23 (Reuters) Central Baghdad was hit by an explosion that sent a plume of smoke into the air today, and Reuters witnesses reported hearing gunfire immediately after the blast.

It was not immediately clear what had caused the explosion.
