Barnala express concern on deteriorating education standards

Moga, Mar 23 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala today expressed concern over the deteriation of eduational standard in Punjab, specially in government schools.

''The managements of the institutions should select teachers on merit so as to maintain the standard of education,'' he said, after inaugurating the Gurpreet Holy Heart Public School at Mehalkalan, 40 km from here on Raikot-Barnala road. The public school is being set-up by Lala Hardyal Holy Heart Charitably Trust.

In his address after the inaguration, Mr Barnala urged the teaching community to perform their duties honestly and with dedication so that their wards are not only educated but become good citizens as well. He also stressed the need of new techniques of education in view of globalisation of education.

Mr Barnala said that Punjab needed lot of sincere efforts to push up the education scenario and the state needed help from institutes of higher excellence. He said that the southern states, especially Tamil Nadu were doing a good job in the field of education.

Suggesting tie-ups with other states for setting up centers of higher learning in Punjab, he assured all help if any institute in Punjab was keen to have tie-ups with institutions in Tamil Nadu.
