Advani blames ''infirm'' UPA policies for rising terrorism
Varanasi, Mar 23 (UNI) Former Deputy Prime Minister and senior BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani today blamed the ''infirm policies'' of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) for rising terrorism in the country.
''No sooner than the UPA govenment rose to power, it scrapped POTA. Even United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has clarified that ordinary laws are not sufficient to curb terrorism and called for special legislation,''Mr Advani said here today.
He maintained that the United Kingdom and the US had passed toughter anti-terrorism laws than POTA.
''Congress had also strongly protested POTA, when the party was in opposition. The Act could only be passed by convening a joint session of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha,'' he noted.
Mr Advani and BJP national president Rajnath Singh arrived here aboard a special flight this morning.
Earlier, they visited the famous Sankatmochan Temple, the site of the first blast. The two leaders also met the serial blast victims recuperating at the BHU hospital.
At least 17 persons were killed and several others wounded when twin blasts rocked Varanasi at Sankatmochan Temple and Cantonment Railway Station.
