46 more organisation plead on Bandh PIL

Guwahati, Mar 23 (UNI) Altogether 46 more organizations have pleaded before the Guwahati High Court on a PIL, seeking the court's intervention to stop the 'menace' of bandh.

The Court has fixed the matter three weeks from now for final hearing, clubbing together another PIL lying before the Shillong bench of the High Court, for a combined hearing to the sensitive case.

The original PIL was filed by M Talukdar, seeking intervention of the court to stop the menace of frequent bandh, which caused immense economic loss to the state.

The court sent notices to 19 respondents including Asom Government and the All Asom Student Union (AASU) as well as Asom Jatiyadabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP).

The AASU and AJYCP have already filed their affidavit in the court pleading that they ''reluctantly'' give call for bandh only, when all other democratic means of protest are closed.
