Twelve children rescued from Zari units
Mumbai, Mar 22 (UNI) City Police rescued 12 children from zari manufacturing units near Vashi in eastern Mumbai and arrested five owners of these units late last night.
Acting on a tip-off, RCF police raided these units at Vashi Naka near Chembur and rescued 12 boys, aged between 12 to 14 years, police sources said.
The rescued children were taken to Nagpada police hospital for medical check-up. Several children complained of physical assaults by their owners. The boys were later taken to Dongri remand home, police sources said.
The police also arrested five owners of the zari manufacturing units for making these children work for nearly 12 to 14 hours in unhygenic conditions. The arrested persons have been identified as Mohd Alauddin Ansari, Mohd Nasirullah, Mohd Imtiaz, Mohd Mushtaq and Mohd Bakaullah. They have been booked under various sections of te Juvenile Justice Act, sources added.
