Students design rough terrain vehicle for US contest

Surat, Mar 22: A rough terrain vehicle designed by the students of Sardhar Vallabhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT) here will participate in an international competition of vehicles to be held in Portland, US, from May 11.

The vehicle named 'Pushpak' runs on a 7.5 hp engine, uses petrol as fuel and can accommodate only one person and travel at a speed of 50-60 km per hr.

The competition is organised by the Society for Automotive Engineers, an international organisation to promote new models in rough of terrain vehicles.

''The vehicle is conceived and designed by the students of the institute and it was analysed and approved by the Society,'' Head of mechanical engineering department Dr S A Channiwala said.

''Students collected Rs 2.2 lakh from various agencies to fund the project,'' he added.
