Sonia not holding office of profit: Cong
New Delhi, Mar 22 (UNI) Reacting to the Oppositions charge that the Government wanted to bring an ordinance to save Mrs Sonia Gandhi from disqualification, the Congress today asserted that the party President was not holding an office of profit by being the Chairperson of the National Advisory Council(NAC).
''The NAC exercises no judicial, legislative or executive powers.
The NAC is purely recommendatory body,'' Congress Spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said.
''The NAC is only advisory in nature. It makes suggestions regarding the Common Minimum Programme (CMP), some of which are accepted while others are not,'' Mr Singhvi pointed out, adding that it is not binding on the Government to accept the recommendations.
''The NAC is thus not an office of the Government nor an office under the Government,'' the Congress Spokesman said talking to UNI here.
