Opposition moves no-confidence motion against Tripura Speaker

Agartala, Mar 22 (UNI) The Tripura Legislative Assembly will take up the no-confidence motion against Speaker Ramendra Chandra Debnath on April 6 for discussion and subsequent voting.

The decision was taken today after the Opposition Congress and the Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT) had moved a no-confidence motion against the Speaker accusing him of curbing the democratic rights of the Opposition.

The Opposition move was triggered by the Speaker's decision to suspend two Opposition members, including the Leader of the Opposition, for a day on Monday for unruly behaviour.

Leader of the Opposition Ratanlal Nath (Congress) and another Congress Legislator Sudip Roy Barman were suspended by the Speaker on Monday for unruly behaviour. The two Opposition parties wore black badges and walked out of the floor of the House yesterday, in protest against the Speaker's decision.

Earlier, the Opposition members met Governor Dinesh Nandan Sahaya and alleged that the Speaker had been playing a partisan role by curbing the democratic rights of the Opposition.
